Water Damage

Look what Mickey found when he opened the building on May 5.

Hallway had ceiling tiles fall and significant water running down walls. Floor had standing water.

Nursery had ceiling tiles fall and water damage to walls and floor

Toddler room had ceiling tiles fall, water damage to walls, floor, toys and books. Wooden puzzles and books had to be thrown out.

Preschool room lost most of the children's toys and contents.

Here you can see the saturated ceiling tiles that fell and the amount of standing water in the hallway.

The Hispanic Worship Center was heavily damaged.

The Grades 1-3 Class was also heavily damaged.

The choir room was completely flooded. It looks like a beautiful shiny floor, but it really is 1/2 inch of water.

The upstairs hallway just outside the ladies restroom. The ladies restroom is where the water line broke.

The cleanup and drying began that afternoon. We tried to dry most things, but books and paper products were destroyed.

The drying has begun, but look at all the ceiling tiles that were lost. Water got into the light fixtures as well.

Update 06/28/19: Asbestos abatement is complete and all equipment has been removed.  Air quality samples were "excellent."  The building is now ready for the next phase - restoration and/or renevation.

Original Post: On Sunday, May 5, 2019 a water line break was discovered in the Education Building.  A great deal of damage had been done before it was discovered.

Above is a slideshow of some of the damage, but it can not convey the extent of lost books, posters, resources, etc. that were damaged and had to be thrown out.

In the process of drying out the building and cleaning out contents, it was discovered that there was asbestos in the flooring.  It would need to be removed before any restoration could be possible.  AB Control has begun that removal process and we hope to have it completed before the July 4 holiday.

The church is considering what to do in the restoration process - whether to try to restore it as it was or modify the inside to open other ministry possibilities.  Mr. Jimmy Vause has been coordinating that effort as we try to determine what is best for the church and what we think we can afford to do at this time.  We believe, however, that God is bigger than our circumstances and are trusting Him to do "to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think."

 Romans 11:24 (ESV)
For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.
